Synergy Health Partners was founded in 2012 by practicing orthopaedic surgeons who understood firsthand the challenges hospitals face: recruitment, call coverage, access to care, and patient satisfaction.
What began as a practical solution to a broken system has evolved into a trusted, nationwide leader in orthopedics, general surgery, trauma surgery, and acute care surgicalist programs.

Richard Makowiec – MD, MBA
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Makowiec brings deep clinical leadership to Synergy as an acclaimed orthopedic surgeon and former Navy Medical Corps Officer. With experience at the Indiana Orthopedic Institute and specializing in complex upper extremity reconstruction he’s been nationally recognized as one of America’s Top Orthopedists and a HealthTap Top Doctor.
Thomas J. Macha – MD
National Director Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. Macha leads the Orthopedic Trauma team at SouthCoast Health and served as Orthopedic Trauma Director during its Level II Trauma Center designation. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, his background includes general orthopedics with expertise in trauma, sports medicine, and joint replacement.
Arthur L. Gruen – MD
Co-Founder & Board Member
Founder of EA Health, Harvard and Albert Einstein College of Medicine alumnus Dr. Gruen has devoted his career to optimizing emergency department and on-call staffing and RCM models. He advises Synergy Health Partners on clinical operations and revenue cycle services, leveraging his background to design innovative solutions that benefit hospitals, providers, and patients.
Jeffrey Yeamans – MD
Head of Urology
Jeffrey is a board-certified urologist with nearly two decades of experience delivering advanced surgical and clinical care across a comprehensive range of urologic conditions. Actively practices with Comprehensive Urology, serves as the Section Chief at Corewell Beaumont Grosse Pointe and holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Urology at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Rand L. Schleusener – MD, MBA
Co-Founder & Advisor
A respected orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Schleusener co-founded and served as the Chief Surgical Officer of Synergy Surgicalists. He is the former president of Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center. With two decades of emergency department experience, Dr. Schleusener served as assistant professor of orthopedics at the University of Utah.
John D. Campbell – MD, MBA
Co-Founder & Board Member
With over 30 years of clinical leadership, Dr. Campbell co-founded Synergy Surgicalists after transforming Bridger Orthopedics & Sports Medicine into a state-of-the-art practice. He has held executive roles, including President, Chairman, and Medical Director, at Rocky Mountain Medical Center and served on the clinical faculty of the University of Utah.
Patrick Regan – DO
National Director of General Surgery
Patrick J. Regan, DO is a board-certified general surgeon with expertise in adult and pediatric emergency general surgery, acute care, trauma, and medical education. He earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Regan is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a recipient of the Stewart Fellow Award.

Dan brings over 30 years of leadership to advancing sustainable surgical workforce solutions. His strategic vision has deepened hospital partnerships, empowered clinical teams, and broadened access to high-quality surgical care. Dan is known for transforming clinical insight into scalable, results-driven programs that elevate outcomes and strengthen community health.
Chris Kraus – MEcon, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
Chris oversees finance, accounting, revenue cycle, IT, and compliance, bringing 20+ years of healthcare and finance experience in financial management, capital raising, and M&A. He previously served as CFO at Traditions Behavioral Health and United Allergy Services, and held senior financial roles at Diebold Nixdorf. Chris also worked at KPMG in the U.S. and Germany, gaining extensive audit and consulting experience with multinational clients.
Mark Norato
Chief Partnership Officer
Mark leads national partnership development and growth for Synergy Health Partners, helping hospitals and health systems build sustainable, high-performance surgical and hospital-based service lines. With 30+ years of healthcare leadership, he partners with hospital leadership to design resilient staffing models, strengthen access, and improve operational and financial performance.

April leads clinician recruitment, connecting hospitals with top surgical talent through a people-first approach. A familiar presence at industry conferences, she aligns clinicians’ career goals with organizational needs to elevate patient care. Her dedication to delivering exceptional candidate experiences ensures seamless placements that support long-term success and true work-life balance.
Barbara Raulli – RN, BSN, MHA
VP Program Operations
Barbara brings a unique blend of clinical insight and healthcare management expertise to lead the design and optimization of surgical and anesthesia staffing programs. As an RN and healthcare administrator, she builds scalable, efficient solutions that support clinicians, streamline operations, and improve patient care across a wide range of hospital settings.

William A. Sanger – MBA
Chairman of the Board
William A. Sanger is an accomplished entrepreneur, investor, and healthcare leader. He has served as CEO of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, JFK Health System, and Envision Healthcare, which sold for $10b+. Bill has taken four companies public and today serves as Chairman of Synergy Health Partners. Beyond healthcare, he manages diverse ventures, advises private equity firms, supports nonprofits, and is the proprietor of The Sanger Family of Wines and The Sanger Olive Oil Company. He has an MBA from Northwestern University.
Samarth Chandra – MA, MBA

Samarth Chandra is a General Partner at Enhanced Healthcare Partners with 19+ years’ experience building companies across healthcare sub-sectors. He partners with management teams to architect a vision and accelerate growth. His experience spans Lazard, Flexpoint Ford, and the University of Chicago, where he earned BA, MA, and MBA degrees.

He co-founded and led industry-leading ventures and serves on the boards of Charles R. Drew University School of Medicine and Science and other companies, shaping value-based care strategies.
